Savvy Spurs

3-20-11 Today was cool. Lordy I am sure enjoyed his day off watching all of his equine friends playing in the Playday Challenge. Michael and Emma came with me to the barn. We saddled up and headed out to the arena. Today was the first day wearing spurs since our dressage days..... I feel like it is time to win the Porcupine Game when needed. So I have committed to wearing my spurs. Lordy was overall light but a few times the Porcupine Game was needed to the message effectively to his feet. I could tell a few times during the session that Lordy remember his dressage days "making" him do things... therefore he got sticky to the maintain gait all on his own. I allowed him to realize the spurs we polite and fair. I do think it will take a bit longer for him to realize my attitude of justice with them. Overall he is so much softer in the hackamore and getting easier and easier to bend and keep bent on a circle off feel and body versus consistent reins..... His canter is a dream to sit so nice and soft and fluid. Best part was in the end my little girl who just turned 3 could not wait to ride Lordy back to the barn. She was so excited to put mommy's helmet on and get on up there. Even said giddy up Lordy lets go! Priceless.......

  1. I had the same joy this weekend when my little five year old grandson, who had been chasing us around the pasture, took his turn to get on as we headed back to the barn. The joy on his face and the sweetness my high spirited horse shows that little boy melts my heart.
